Muscle spasm in mountaineering
Spasm is a very common problem in many sports including mountaineering especially in summers. Loosing water and the balance of body electrolytes after sweating can be the main cause.
The very first sign of spasm can be pain usually in back or neck. This pain can be continued for several seconds or minutes.
Usually the spasm does not have any link to any serious physiological problem but if you find some these symptoms you must contact your doctor:
-Any problem in bladder or intestine functions.
-Muscle weakness in arms and legs and lack of balance.
-Spreading numbness in hands and legs especially during coughs and sneezes.
-Sleep disturbance due to severe pain in body.
-Simultaneous pain and fever, losing weight and other sickness symptoms.
If you do not have any of mentioned symptoms then consider these tricks to improve your condition:
Do some light exercises. Long resting periods can reduce your strength.
At the first 72 hours apply some ice or frozen vegetables covered in a plastic bag on the painful muscle for at least 20 minutes. Do this treatment for at least 2-3 times per day.
After 3 days, toy can apply some warm treatments. Heat can reduce the tension between muscle fibers and help them to rest. Using a wet warm towel might be better. It helps to lose less water from skin.
